Dear Shelby Families:
As you well know, the Shelby City School District has been in remote learning status since Friday, November 20th and we appreciate your support and assistance during this time. However, as we have said many times, from the time this school year began on August 24th, it has been the goal of the Shelby City Schools to provide a safe environment for our students and staff so that face-to-face instruction can be provided to our students throughout the district.
After consultation with the City of Shelby Health Department, the determination has been made to resume face-to-face instruction beginning on Monday, January 11th. School days will operate the same as when we were in session from August 24 until we went to remote learning status just prior to Thanksgiving, which includes the same safety protocols with regard to wearing face coverings, physical distancing, etc.
Meals will continue to be available for Whippet Academy students as they have been since the school year began. To sign up for meals go to the Shelby City School District website and navigate to the COVID-19 District Updates page.
The plans in this letter, like many things in our society at this time, are subject to change and to that end, the Shelby City Schools will continue to work with the City of Shelby Health Department to assess the current situation. Parents, you can be of assistance by reporting any household or student positive COVID cases to your child’s school, which will help us track our Covid-related numbers. Again, it is our goal to provide face-to-face instruction to our students but we must balance that objective while maintaining the focus of keeping our students and staff safe; thank you for your understanding.
Again, thank you for your continued support and help throughout this school year; we are looking forward to the opportunity to work with your sons and daughters in a face-to-face instructional mode during the second semester.
Respectfully,
Tim Tarvin
Superintendent, Shelby City Schools
