On Thursday, March 12, Governor DeWine announced that he is closing all Ohio schools beginning at the end of the school day on Monday, March 16 for students. At this time, the governor’s office has directed that schools will remain closed through April 3. Around that time, the governor will inform us of any future steps regarding Ohio schools.
Like you, we are learning this information in real time as to how we are all to be affected and why these steps need to be taken. Right now, our collective job is to support the governor and the needs that exist in order to “interrupt” further community spread.
Obviously, there are many questions that we need answered and we will do our best to communicate accurately and in a timely manner with you.
Right now, Governor DeWine requested that we make decisions that are not only in our school community’s best interest, but also in the best interest of our community as a whole. Stay home when possible, wash hands often and stay away from people who are sick. And, as always, prior to Monday, please know that it is always a parent’s option as to whether to send their child to school.
This is the extent of what we know. Now our schools will begin looking at what this means locally. That includes options for distance learning, how that looks and so much more.
We will be posting regular updates on https://testing.shelbyk12.org/covid-19-district-updates. This is where you can find updates in real time. Please keep the phone lines open; do not contact the district directly unless it is an emergency. If you have questions that are directly related to the closure, please direct all questions to Superintendent, Tim Tarvin and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
