Dear Shelby Families:
Since we began the school year on August 24th, it has been the goal of the Shelby City Schools to provide a safe environment for our students and staff so that face-to-face instruction can be provided to our students throughout the district; I want to thank you for your support and assistance to keep our students in school.
However, the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in our area is beginning to negatively impact our student attendance and particularly our ability to adequately staff our buildings throughout the district. In an effort to alleviate this situation so that we can maintain the long term ability to provide face-to-face instruction, the Shelby City School District will be making an adjustment to the school calendar; this adjustment will begin on Monday, November 23rd and will remain in effect through Friday, December 4th.
Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday, November 24th:
~ students will not report to school but they will be receiving instruction remotely/virtually
~ all staff will be reporting to work and teachers will be providing instruction remotely/virtually
Wednesday, November 25th – Friday, November 27th = Thanksgiving Break = no instruction
Monday, November 30th – Friday, December 4th
~ students will not report to school but they will be receiving instruction remotely/virtually
~ all staff will be reporting to work and teachers will be providing instruction remotely/virtually
Monday, December 7th – December 22nd
~ Shelby City Schools will resume face-to-face instruction
Wednesday, December 23rd – Monday, January 4th = scheduled holiday break = no instruction
Tuesday, January 5th
~ Shelby City Schools will resume face-to-face instruction as per our school calendar
During the time that the Shelby City School District is in remote learning mode, meals will be provided to all students. Mr. Stanford, our food service director, will be providing information on the district’s website detailing how meals will be provided. Also at this time, while in remote learning, athletics will continue.
Please know that by making this adjustment in our calendar from November 24th – December 4th, it is the hope of the Shelby City Schools that this change will allow our staff and students to continue face-to-face instruction in a healthy and safe manner beginning on December 7th. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this change in the school calendar may cause your family.
The Shelby City Schools will continue to assess the current situation on a daily basis with the understanding that these plans are subject to change. Again, it is our goal to provide face-to-face instruction to our students but we must balance that objective while maintaining the focus of keeping our students and staff safe; thank you for your understanding.
Respectfully,
Tim Tarvin
Superintendent, Shelby City Schools
